iPad mini 3はジョークだ

第３世代の新型iPad miniとして先日デビューしたiPad mini 3。その驚きといったらなんともガッカリな代わり映えのしないその外見と中身。
iPhone 6 Plusの登場によりiPad miniシリーズはこれからはもう廃れていってしまうのでしょうか。そんなiPad mini 3の立ち位置をジョークだと評した「「iPad Mini 3 Is A Joke, While The iPad Mini 2 Is The Best Deal」がもっともな意見だったので紹介します。

「iPad mini 2がベストチョイス」

Yesterday, Apple made a series of odd decisions that have left us scratching our collective heads. The biggest question mark is the existence of the iPad mini 3. The iPad Air 2 includes the A8X chip, thinner design, new 8MP camera, anti-reflective screen, and TouchID. Of all of those additions, the iPad mini 3 only gets TouchID, meaning it has the same A7 chip, 5MP camera, and from factor as last year’s iPad mini with retina display. It doesn’t seem deserving of the “3” moniker, and the iPad mini 3 seems to just be a waste of time, and an absolute joke.

アップルは先日我々を悩ませてくれる非常に奇妙な発表を行いました。もちろんそれはiPad mini 3の存在です。
同じく新型のiPad Air 2は次世代プロセッサ、進化したカメラ、反射防止スクリーン、TouchID、そしてさらに薄くなって登場しました。
しかし同じく新型であるiPad mini 3はというとたったのTouchIDのみ。つまりそれ以外は昨年のiPad miniと変わらないスペックだということを意味しています。
これが「3」の名に値するでしょうか。まるで今回のiPad mini 3に進化も感じなければ、冗談のようにも思えてきてしまう。

The only reason it’s $100 cheaper today than yesterday morning is because Apple added TouchID to the device for a new $399 edition. By foregoing TouchID, you save $100, and the positioning of the two devices emphasizes the odd choice by Apple, but gives you a good deal.

一方、ほとんどTouchIDがないだけしか違いのないiPad mini 2も併売されています。そしてそれは＄100安い。
そう、＄100安いiPad mini 2、これがベストな選択肢になるだろう。iPad mini 2が＄100安くなった唯一の理由はTouchID搭載の新しいデバイスが登場したからです。ということはTouchIDに目をつぶると＄100節約することができるでしょう。
そして、これら奇妙な2つの"新型"iPad miniの存在が皮肉にもユーザーにとっては＄100安く"新型"iPad miniを購入させてくれることになっている。

現状維持なiPad mini 3

iPad Air 2のキャッチフレーズが非常に勇ましいのに比べてiPad mini 3といえばどこか自信なさげに見えてきちゃうのはぼくだけでしょうか。

言葉の揚げ足取りみたいになっちゃいましたが、勢いの違いはホームページ上でも歴然。「Touch ID搭載」がメインってやっぱり寂しさ感じちゃいます。

7.9インチがベストサイズのタブレットでiPad mini 3に当然のように期待していた方にとっては肩透かしを食らった感は否めませんが、新規ユーザーにとってみると新型が＄100安く購入できるという見方も十分にできるよ、16GBといわず32GBも安いよ、ということで。
